Roly Thompson is a fellow Singer/Songwriter I met through Cafe Koi a couple years ago. We instantly had a connection when we discovered my Haida Gwaii guitar is named after the island he spends his winters on – small world! He suggested attending the Open Stage at the Uptown Folk Club months ago, and I finally got an opportunity to do so this past weekend. I picked up Roly in Bowden where he makes his home, and off to the capital we went. The Uptown is a great space, wonderful people and awesome talent – I received a complimentary DVD of my performance and a membership card to the Folk Club – what more could I ask for?! We wandered the cool shops on Whyte Ave and later took in another open stage Saturday afternoon. One thing for sure about Edmonton is that there is no lack of talent there, and we were welcomed with open arms everywhere we went. Thanks Edmonton!!
